Dear Colleague:

The program for SHE XVIII is well under way. Many thanks to everyone who
responded to the call for preliminary program contributions. Additional
contributions are encouraged up to the FINAL DEADLINE of January 31, 2011.

This conference is meant to be as broadly interdisciplinary as possible -
bridging science, social science and policy perspectives - with literature,
humanities and creative arts. Like previous SHE meetings, it is intended to
bring together a diverse group of educators, researchers and practitioners
who utilize, or are interested in, interdisciplinary and ecological
approaches. For more information about registration and accommodations,
please visit the SHE website at
*www.SocietyforHumanEcology.org<http://www.societyforhumanecology.org/>
*

So far, we have received responses and program submissions from over 150
participants. We look forward to a diverse and exciting program with an
excellent range of speakers, symposia, round-tables and individual

*I. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION*

As the submission deadline approaches (January 31), it is important that the
conference planning committee has all symposia materials, abstracts,
presentation titles and authors’ information in hand. If you have already
submitted an abstract, then you do not have to resubmit. However, you may
wish to take this opportunity to re-send your abstract if you want to update
or modify it.

                A. Abstract Preparation

Abstract preparation for contributed papers should include: A title page
with the full title of the presentation and name(s), affiliation(s), mailing
address(es), email address(es), telephone and fax number(s) for each
presenter. Those who are organizing symposia should likewise provide
information for all presenters. Abstracts should be about 200 words with
three to five key words and should be double-spaced. Abstracts can be
submitted as an attachment (MS WORD doc file) or as text. Please submit to *
[email protected]* and in the subject line of the email please
indicate "SHE Abstract". A summary of the submission guidelines for
symposia, papers and posters is attached below. *FINAL DEADLINE FOR ALL
SUBMISSIONS IS JANUARY 31, 2011.*

* *

Early submissions help the conference committee identify emerging themes and
design the program. Thus, we encourage early "draft" abstracts as soon as
is possible — keeping in mind revisions are always accepted up to the final
date.

*                *B. Guidelines for Submission

* *

1. *Organized Symposia:* Organized sessions should be designed to fill a
1 ½ - 2 hour block and involve 4 - 6 people.  These usually consist of
either a group of papers or a thematic discussion/symposium. The organizer
is responsible for the coordination of participants. E-mail and postal
contact information, institutional affiliations and abstracts for individual
and group presentations are required by January 31. At this point only the
session theme and the organizer’s name and institution are needed.

2. * Contributed Papers*: Individual papers will be grouped on similar
issues. Paper summaries (15 - 20 minutes in duration) will be given during
the session with time allotted for discussion. Please send presenter(s),
titles and institutional information as soon as possible. Submission and
review of abstracts is open until January 31.

3. *Posters*: Space and time will be provided for poster style
presentations. Submissions for posters follow the same guidelines as an
abstract for a contributed paper, e.g. author, title and abstract, but
should clearly indicate "poster" in the heading.

Note: Please send these submissions directly to* [email protected]*
