We are pleased to announce the EMBL|EMBO Science and Society Summer School:

The Human Animal, 1 - 6 August 2011

Registration is now open, please register at:

The summer school will take place in Heidelberg, Germany at the EMBL Advanced 
Training Centre<http://www.embl.de/atc>.

Registration deadline: 18:00 CET on 29 May 2011
Please note that registration requires submission of your CV and a motivation 
letter.

The aim of the Summer School is to bring together PhD students and postdocs 
from the life sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences with senior 
researchers and scholars from a range of different fields for a week of 
intensive interdisciplinary communication. The main emphasis of the course will 
be on encouraging discussion and exchange of ideas and insights across 
disciplinary boundaries. Each day during the course senior scholars/researchers 
will give overview presentations addressing the different themes of the 
program. This will be accompanied by interactive, in-depth discussion sessions 
throughout the day. Junior participants in the summer school are expected to be 
actively involved throughout the course

This summer school is jointly sponsored by the European Molecular Biology 
Laboratory and the European Molecular Biology Organization, and it will take 
place at their headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. It is organized by faculty 
from three academic institutions: EMBL, European School of Molecular Medicine, 
and Harvard Kennedy School. EMBL/EMBO 4S will explore how new know-how and 
technologies emerging from the biological sciences are forcing us to re-examine 
our views of the human species, including the nature of rationality and the 
boundaries of being human.
