Post-doc announcement for 2011-2012 : science and politics of biodiversity
markets

The Centre A. Koyré for History of Science &
Technology<http://www.koyre.cnrs.fr/> and the Ile de France Research Network on
Sustainability Research<http://www.r2ds-ile-de-france.com/> (R2DS) offer a
post-doc fellowship to study emerging financial markets of biodiversity offset,
and the financialization of biodiversity. The position is based in Paris, with
Christophe Bonneuil (Centre A. Koyré, Cnrs & Ehess) and Valérie Boisvert (IRD,
UMR GRED) as principal investigators. This is a 12-month position (with a
possible 6-month extension) with an annual stipend of 24.800 Euros (netto). An
additional budget is available for fieldwork.

The research will include an analysis of the actors (NGO and Foundations, IOs,
Governments, Firms) that are promoting market-based instruments for the
conservation of biodiversity at the global scale. It will also study how such
biodiversity offset markets have come into being through
scientific/metrological efforts to 'make things the same' (MacKenzie, 2009)
across different sites, habitats, species across the world. In particular, the
research will focus on how actors have struggled to develop standard
calculation methods of the "no net loss".
As the research will include several months of fieldwork in the United States,
we welcome particularly English-speaking candidates. Candidates must have a PhD
in Science Studies, Sociology, Ecological Economics, Anthropology or in
Political Sciences

Interested candidates can contact us for more details
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>,
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>). Candidates should
send a CV, a one-page letter of motivation relating to the research project,
and two letters of recommendation before April 20, 2011. The position could
start on June 1st, or September, 1st .
