For those interested, my International Environmental Agreements
Database is at http://iea.uoregon.edu/
With respect to multilaterals, it defines the terms for
inclusion/exclusion ("multilateral", "env'l", "agreement") explicitly and
includes agreements (and text) from pre-1900 (16 agreements) through the
present (9 agreements for 2010). It's quite comprehensive but if anyone
identifies missing agreements, please let me know and I will add them.
Currently, my count for Multilateral Environmental Agreements
counting agreements, protocols, and amendments separately is 1045 see:

I am happy helping people doing research on this -- if you can't find
what you want on the site, let me know and I can re-aggregate stuff as
needed.
       Best,
       Ron

Subject: Re: [gep-ed] number of environmental agreements?

There is no official list of environmental treaties, primarily
because
there is no official list of environmental issues (for reasons easy
to
       conjure).

In our database we have 464 multilateral environmental agreements
       (http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/entri/).

Ecolex has 663 multilateral environmental agreements in its database
       (http://www.ecolex.org/).

Both systems permit easy searching, subsetting and downloading. We
are working together to harmonize, and involving Ron Mitchell in the
       effort as well.
