Hi folks: Some of you know that in my non-academic life I'm a folks singer-songwriter. Usually I keep those pieces pretty separate, but I was inspired last summer by the BP oil spill to write a song that brought those two parts of my life together. It was music that originally inspired me to study the things I study in my academic life.
Here is the song (in honor of the anniversary of the BP well blowout): http://earthday.sonicbids.com/BandDetails.aspx?b=28427&bn=Beth+DeSombre It actually starts about two generations earlier, and addresses the variety of environmental challenges facing those small-scale fishers who try to make a living from the Gulf. I'd love it if you'd have a listen (and please let me know what you think!). Also, this song is part of an earth day song contest, and if you download the song (you have to give your email address -- remember to uncheck the "send me spam" box) it counts as a "vote" for me to advance to the next round.
