Hi all- Steve Brechin (Professor, Sociology, Maxwell School at Syracuse University) and I are spearheading the effort to put together a chapter on public attitudes and climate change as part of the ASA task force on the sociology of climate change. We see this assignment as a collaborative review of [largely] sociological literature on this topic. We are writing to request that those of you who have worked in this contribute your ideas and leads on key literature. Please feel free to include your own articles as well as others. Although this may evolve as we engage further with this broad topic we see this review piece as focusing on three thematic areas:
1. public attitude/opinion formation 2. public attitudes and behavior/action; 3. and public attitudes and agenda setting and public policy. We see this as a "global" piece, not simply related to the U.S. Please send me your suggestions off-line of literature to cite and other ideas that you think will be useful to the cause. I will compile your responses and share them with the group. We hope you are enjoying the summer to date. We look forward to hearing from you. Kindest regards, Steve and Rachael ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Rachael Shwom Assistant Professor, Climate and Society http://humeco.rutgers.edu/facultypages/shwombio.html Rutgers University Department of Human Ecology 732-932-9153 x416 (P) 732-932-8887 (F)
