Colleagues, I encourage you to call this program (below) to the attention of
your students who may be looking for a masters level program -- either as a
basis for NGO or governmental work or as a stepping stone to a Ph.D
program. We've had a very strong track record among our M.A. graduates in
the past decade and have an outstanding, interdisciplinary faculty (
http://humboldt.edu/envcomm/faculty).

Situated on the Pacific coast, among the redwoods, Arcata and Humboldt
County is both a beautiful location and an exciting laboratory for many
local sustainability initiatives -- many led by current and former "E&C"
graduate students.

I'd be happy to answer queries from list members or prospective students, as
would our program director, Mark Baker ([email protected]).

Apologies for cross-posting...

Best,

John

The interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Social Science Environment and
Community Program at Humboldt State University is currently accepting
applications for Fall 2012 admission. *The application deadline for Fall
’12 admission is February 15, 2012.*

This is an exciting time for students to consider applying to the
Environment and Community Program. The program’s core themes of
sustainability, equity, and justice continue to guide the program’s growth.
New graduate seminars, such as Political Ecology, and Conservation Ecology
and Society, have been developed and we have expanded the research methods
component of the program. Our core curriculum is divided into three
curricular areas concerning environment and community. They are Economic
and Political Dimensions, Socio-Cultural Dimensions: Race, Class, Gender and
Place, and Ecological Dimensions. Our graduates pursue successful careers
in the nonprofit sector, education, private sector and the public
sector. Please
explore our website (www.humboldt.edu/envcomm) for more information.

Consider forwarding this message to other departments or programs whose
students may be interested in applying to the Environment and Community
Program.

Contact the program coordinator, Mark Baker ([email protected] ),
should you have any questions regarding what we believe is an exciting
interdisciplinary program. Betsy Watson will coordinate the Environment and
Community Program spring semester, 2012. Please email the program at
[email protected] should you have any program-related questions during
that period.
