Two Full-Time Faculty Positions (open rank)

The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises nine departments, schools and 
institutes, which offer undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programs in both 
English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and 
wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences 
plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate 
students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge 
research in the Faculty’s Master’s and Ph.D. programs.

The School of International Development and Global Studies was created in 2008. 
With 17 professors, it is Canada’s largest department in the field of 
international development. The School has over 800 undergraduates and 120 M.A. 
students. The School has proposed an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in 
international development. Located in a G-8 capital, researchers at the School 
are uniquely placed to interact with NGOs, national and international agencies.

The School of International Development and Global Studies at the University of 
Ottawa is accepting applications for two (2) tenure-track positions 
(open-rank). In one of the positions, a suitable candidate may be considered 
for Director of the School. Priority will be given to candidates who can 
demonstrate expertise and a strong research and publication record in the broad 
area of development and globalization. Expertise in the fields of 
sustainability and livelihoods; or social policy and poverty would be an asset.

DUTIES

  *   Conducting research and publishing activities
  *   Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  *   Supervising Master’s and Ph.D. candidates
  *   Participating in the University’s academic and administrative activities
  *   Other activities as specified in the collective agreement

QUALIFICATIONS

  *   Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field
  *   Possess a strong publication and research track record
  *   Demonstrate excellence in teaching and research
  *   Practical experience or collaboration in international development is an 
asset.

BILINGUALISM
The University of Ottawa is a bilingual institution and all professors in the 
Faculty of Social Sciences must be actively bilingual (English-French) to 
obtain tenure. The University of Ottawa offers second-language training to 
staff members and their spouses.

HIRING CONDITIONS AND SALARY
These are set by the current collective agreement. Tenure-track positions are 
subject to budgetary approval.

STARTING DATE
July 1st, 2012

Consideration of applications will begin on November 20, 2011 and will continue 
until the positions are successfully filled.

teaching and research experience and interests. They must also indicate their 
French and English language abilities and submit copies of their principal
