Dear GEP-ED'ers,

We are sharing with you a new piece in Science, co-authored by 32 scholars, on
the reform of global environmental governance, "Navigating the Anthropocene:
Improving Earth System Governance" (Science, 16 March). We call in this
article for far-reaching, structural change in global governance and outline
seven reform proposals.

This article draws on a broader policy assessment on the institutional
framework for sustainable development that we conducted over the last year for
the upcoming London conference "Planet under Pressure". This ICSU-sponsored
conference, held 26-29 March with about 3000 participants, shall lead the
science input into the UN Conference on Sustainable Development ("Rio+20") in
June.

Most authors of this Science article are long-standing members of the ISA and
GEP-ED network, as well as core members of the Earth System Governance Project.
