I am hoping that some members of the list will participate in AESS activities.
Thanks, wil

Dear AESS Community,

The National Council for Science and the Environment is calling for nominations
to serve in the following leadership positions on behalf of the Association of
Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS). Nominations are accepted until April
18th, 2012. Please send information to Kip Curtis, [email protected], as a
PDF attachment to an email. Names will be verified, added to the ballot, then
voted on by all current AESS members.

Positions Available:

Council
2 Faculty Positions (two year term)
1 Student Position (two year term)

Secretary
1 Position (two year term)

Description:
(a) keep or cause to be kept the minutes of all meetings of the Board and
standing committees;
(b) see that all notices are duly given in accordance with the provisions of
these Bylaws or as required by law; and
(c) have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be specified in
these Bylaws or assigned by the Board.

Part (a) is self evident--and it does not mean that the Secretary must take all
minutes, although that works best. The second biggest duty of the secretary is
to manage the election process, ensuring that the nomination committee submits
a slate of candidates, that the webmaster sets up and publicizes the election,
and that an ad hoc committee certifies the election. The secretary's job is
critical to the operation of the Association. It can be done adequately in
about 4 - 8 hours.

Nominations Committee
3 Faculty Positions (two year term)

Description:
The Nominations Committee shall recruit and nominate candidates for the
elective offices of the Association that need to be filled in any given year.
The Nominations Committee shall have six members, all of whom shall serve for
two-year terms. In identifying candidates for specific positions, the
Nominations Committee shall seek to represent the Association’s diversity of
membership, in terms of age, gender, racial and ethnic background, substantive
interest, field of work, type of employing institutions, and other
considerations the Nominations Committee shall deem appropriate.

Please consider asking your friends and colleagues in the environmental studies
and sciences field to consider being nominated. If they agree, send us their
name, a description of their work/interest/qualifications and their promise to
serve if elected.

Send this information to Kip Curtis, [email protected], as a PDF attachment
to an email. Names will be verified and then added to the ballot.

Let us know if you have questions.

The Nominations Committee
Kip Curtis, Chair

About AESS

The purpose of the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS) is
to serve the faculty, students and staff of the 1000+ interdisciplinary
environmental programs in North America and around the world. We seek to
strengthen teaching, research and service in environmental studies and

the traditional academic disciplines. The association works to support the
professional development of Association members not just as individuals but
also to advance Environmental Studies and Sciences as a whole.
