VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OR VISITING LECTURER OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
Center for Environmental Studies, Brown University

The Center for Environmental Studies at Brown University invites applications
for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies for a non-tenure
track position. The position will run for one year with the possibility of
renewal. The start date can be July 1 or Sept. 1, 2012 or Jan 1, 2013. We
especially seek a social scientist who has expertise in teaching in one of the
following areas: sustainable food and agriculture systems, climate and energy
policy, water policy, global environmental politics, environmental ethics,
urban environment, or institutional politics/common property. We are open to
considering practitioners who would bring current and relevant environmental
experience to the classroom. We also value teachers with experience working
collaboratively across disciplines and experience working with community
agencies and NGOs on engaged projects involving students. The teaching load is
three courses per year, and the position entails supervising 5-7 senior theses
or capstone projects. Depending upon the candidate's qualifications, they may
be asked to teach core environmental studies courses, so experience in teaching
any of these courses will be a helpful addition to the candidate's
qualifications (please see envstudies.brown.edu for our full curriculum).
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant discipline at the
time of commencing work. Full consideration will be given to applications
received by May 30, 2012; we will continue to accept applications until the
position is filled.

Applicants should send a letter of application (including teaching interests
and experience), curriculum vitae, sample syllabi (these can be draft
proposals), and have three letters of recommendation sent as soon as feasible.
