Dear GEP-ED folks,

The cat is out of the bag in Mexico and in Canada, so I might as well share
the news with you all worldwide. After a few years teaching at UBC, I have
taken a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at CIDE (Centro de
Investigación y Docencia Económicas, Center for Economic Research and
Teaching) in Mexico. I am based out of their new campus in Aguascalientes in
central Mexico. While my affiliation is with the Public Administration
Division, I will continue to do comparative environmental policy and global
environmental politics as well (those of you unfamiliar with my research
agenda can check my website http://www.raulpacheco.org
<http://www.raulpacheco.org/> ).

I am writing on deadline (thanks Kate for forwarding my message!) because
the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC 2013) and
Latin American Studies Association (LASA) deadlines for panel proposals are
coming up (LASA closes in 3 days), and I find myself with a couple of
interested people but not enough to assemble full panels.

I am proposing a panel at IASC 2013 on sub-theme 14: Advancing research on
the commons (which is more theoretical and methodological) on the challenges
of undertaking quantitative and qualitative research on the commons and one
panel on water governance and cross-scalar complexity for sub-theme 8.

http://www.iasc2013.org/en/sub-themes.html
<http://www.iasc2013.org/en/sub-themes.html#cat14> I am still accepting
participants in either panel. Deadline for IASC 2013 has been moved to end
of September, but ideally I would like to submit the panel ASAP.

I am also proposing a panel at LASA on the comparative politics of resource
governance in Latin America. My own paper will describe my project comparing
the socio-political dynamics of waste picking in Argentina, Brazil and
Mexico. I am open to comparative papers on water governance, forests,
fisheries, municipal waste management, etc. Deadline for LASA 2013 is
September 1st, so I need abstracts by August 31st.

I recognize that not many GEP-EDers might be interested in Latin America,
but I am sure that there are at least a few who have an interest in those
countries. Do contact me, NOT to my UBC email but to my CIDE one
(raul.pacheco-vega[@]cide.edu <http://cide.edu/> ). You can also reach me on
my personal one, raul.pachecovega AT gmail DOT com.

Thanks very much in advance!

Raul
