Dear all, I am about to propose a special issue of a journal on "the global politics of water". After an exhaustive literature search, I haven't really found an encompassing set of papers or a definite book on the global politics of water (correct me, of course, if I'm wrong!). I have found some really good stuff (I'm obviously aware of the award-winning book by Ken Conca, and also various publications by Peter Mollinga on water politics, Joyeeta Gupta and van der Zaag's GEP piece on the politics of water science, Steven Jackson's Technology and Culture piece on the global water crisis) but no single, all-encompassing volume or journal article on "the global politics of water" per se. Jamie Linton's book (Water) focuses on water from a dialectic perspective, and doesn't really focus on global water politics. There is an edited volume by Wegerich and Warmer on the politics of water, but yet again, no "the global politics of water".
I did find lots on "the politics of water in X, Y or Z country/region" (Vivienne Bennett on the politics of water in Mexico, Maloney and Richardson on the politics of water in Britain, Sherman on the politics of water in the Middle East, and Muller on the politics of water in South Africa). Yet very little is written in the comparative and global realm. I did find Gawel and Bernsen who make a case for global water governance, but I think that's a different way of framing the question that I am doing. Are there any pieces that, in your mind, address water as a global environmental politics problem that I might be missing? And in your view, would a set of papers addressing this be a useful and valuable contribution to the literature? I have VERY little time to put the proposal for said special issue together so I appreciate any and all prompt responses (please reply directly to me so as to avoid flooding on the list-serv). As with every query I've done, I will compile responses and post to the list.
