Program Director: Energy, Climate Change and Extractive Industries

The Inter-American Dialogue—the premier center for policy analysis, 
communication, and exchange on Western Hemisphere affairs—is looking for one 
mid-level professional to manage and oversee Dialogue’sEnergy, Climate Change 
and Extractive Industries program.

The Director will report to the President of the Inter-American Dialogue and 
represent program interests in his absence.
The framework for this program will focus on shaping national and regional 
policy debates, generating policy ideas and disseminating them through the 
publication of articles and working papers.

The incumbent will leverage, expand, or create the Dialogue’s networks of top 
rank analysts and practitioners from Latin America, and the United States who 
demonstrate expertise in subject area and will generate high quality, balanced, 
and up-to-date analyses—for policy, media, and business communities in the 
United States, and Latin America.

The Director will be expected to identify priorities within the program area 
and to play a key role in fundraising for the program.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include:

  *   Conducts research and interviews in the field or among experts.
  *   Establishes and maintaining contacts with key individuals in Latin 
America and the United States who would form working groups. The program 
director in energy, climate and extractive industries will manage a copy of 
group of energy experts that meets several times a year under the direction of 
a non-resident fellow to review critical developments in energy policies and 
institutions in Latin America.
  *   Helps to build interest and commitment to the program among policy 
officials from national governments, multilateral organizations, business 
groups, and prospective funders.
  *   Writes substantial policy papers suitable for publication.
  *   Plans and implements working group meetings and working trips and 
represents the organization in various settings and forums.
  *   Possesses in-depth knowledge of two or more related public policy areas.
  *   Works closely with the President and the Director of Development to 
identify new sources of funding for various projects and assists with proposal 
development.
  *   Assists the President in managing the day-to-day operations of the 
project.

Qualifications: Interested candidates should have graduate training in a 
relevant field; at least of 4 or more years of work experience in international 
or public policy research; excellent organizational, written and oral 
communication skills; familiarity with key issues in the specific program area 
they are applying for; ability to work effectively with different sectors in 
both the Latin America and Washington policy communities; and fluency in both 
Spanish and English (Portuguese is a plus).
