*Urban Environmental Studies*

The *State University of New York College of Environmental Science and
Forestry* (SUNY-ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for an academic
year, tenure-track position as *Assistant Professor of Urban Environmental
Studies*.

*Responsibilities:* The successful candidate will be expected to build a
strong, extramurally-funded research program in urban environmental
studies, with an interdisciplinary social science foundation. S/he will
teach an undergraduate Geographic Information Technology course, as well as
undergraduate and graduate courses in urban environmental studies. The
successful candidate will play a key role in the undergraduate minor in
Urban Environmental Science and will have the opportunity to develop
affiliations with the College’s Center for the Urban Environment and the
USDA Forest Service Urban Forestry unit at ESF. The position will be
filledby a candidate with expertise in one or more of the following
areas: urban
environmental studies or science, environmental geography, urban
environmental policy and planning, environmental justice, and spatial
analysis, among others.

*Required Qualifications:* A Ph.D. in environmental studies, geography,
communication, public policy, planning, or a related discipline is
required, as are spatial analysis skills.

*Preferred Qualifications:* A record of excellence in research and
teaching, commensurate with time since degree; strong theoretical grounding
in one or more disciplines; facility with social science theory;
social-biophysical interdisciplinary experience; international research
experience; post-doctoral or professional experience.

*The College and the Department: * The College of Environmental Science and
Forestry is dedicated to solving environmental problems through research,
teaching and service.  With a total enrollment of 1,650 undergraduates and
600 graduate students, ESF provides an intimate small college atmosphere.
The low student/faculty ratio also allows for an active advisory system
that is focused on personal attention and assistance for students.
Integration of research and teaching is emphasized.  The College is
co-located with Syracuse University and Upstate Medical University, giving
students and faculty the added resources of a large institution of higher
education.  The Environmental Studies program integrates the social and
biophysical sciences and the humanities to enhance environmental policy and
decision making processes. The ESF Environmental Studies Department is one
of the largest in the nation with dedicated fully to environmental studies. The
department offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Professional
Studies (M.P.S.), and Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in Environmental
Studies and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Environmental
Science administered through ESF’s interdepartmental Graduate Program in
Environmental Science.
