Dear All,

For those of you attending the annual ISA conference in New Orleans next week,
I am soliciting a last minute discussant for a panel on sectors, industries and
environmental impacts (see below for details). I'm happy to say that you've not
heard much from me this year on filling last minute holes in the environmental
studies program.

As usual, the discussant role will be filled on a first come, first served
basis. Please email me directly if you'd like the job
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>). It looks like a
fun panel. Thanks in advance!

Best,

Susan (ESS program chair)

Abstract and Keywords

This panel addresses key issues facing the international political economy: how
different sectors and industries impact on the global environment. The panel
investigates the governance gap in the field of nanotechnology, the chains of
accountability in local tourism markets in developing countries, the ability to
regulate polluters in concentrated markets despite their influence, and how oil
spills fit within a neoliberal market where environmental problems can be
managed. Finally the panel questions whether a virtuous circle of consumerism
can be established in areas such as Amazon based cosmetics.
