The Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP) is seeking exceptional candidates to join our program in Agriculture, Forests, and Biodiversity (AFB) as postdoctoral fellows. Directed by Professor Avery Cohn, AFB is dedicated to research in support of sustainable agriculture, the stewardship of wild lands, and healthy oceans. Applications are *due April 25th* for start dates between July 1st and September 1st, 2015. We will make up to three one-year appointments with the potential to renew for an additional year. Salaries will be $50-55K per year depending on previous experience. Benefits are competitive. Fellows are expected to join projects currently supervised by AFB faculty and affiliates. The specific topics for this year's competition are: * The design and evaluation of policies to prevent tropical deforestation * Climate impacts on tropical agriculture * The potential for diversified farming systems and/or market access to reduce climate risk for smallholder farmers in Mozambique * The sustainable intensification of agricultural systems * A safe operating space for low carbon energy systems under climate variability and climate change * Sustainable ocean-resource based development Projects are data-driven and involve skills, methods and analytic techniques including: statistical analysis, field social science survey design and analysis, framed lab experiments, satellite remote-sensing dataset analysis, impact evaluation, big data manipulation and programming, land use modeling, economic modeling of farm households, and fluency in Portuguese. Fellows with backgrounds in quantitative social science, environment and earth science, civil and environmental engineering, and statistics are encouraged to apply. Please be sure to highlight your qualifications in one or more of these areas in your cover letter. Some projects involve field research and/or supervision of field research for as much as three to four months of the year. Our research is inherently applied. Fellows may be expected to dedicate as much as 10% of their time to research outreach. Fellows who wish will also be encouraged to pursue their own research agenda during their appointments. Fellows may dedicate as much as 25% of their time to independent research projects. Research stipends of up to $10K will be available to support these activities. To apply, please send a current C.V. During this time she will be serve in The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as a Senior Policy Advisor and work on climate change and energy policy. She will also work on international climate policy in close coordination with the State Department, concentrating on international negotiations. Interim Director, Jenny Aker is a Development Economist with a focus on agricultural development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
