We are pleased to announce a GS13 research scientist position in the Social and 
Economic Analysis (SEA) Branch at the Fort Collins Science Center (FORT), U.S. 
Geological Survey, Fort Collins, Colorado. The mission of the FORT is to 
develop, integrate, and provide the ecological knowledge necessary to 
understand the causes and predict the consequences of environmental change, in 
order to improve the conservation and management of natural resources in 
interior western landscapes and the Nation. The SEA Branch is responsible for 
planning and conducting research related to the management of the Nation’s 
natural resources through the development of knowledge about human interactions 
with the environment. We welcome applicants with educational backgrounds in 
traditional social sciences and social science oriented natural science 
programs.

The SEA Branch is seeking a social scientist who will act as principal 
investigator to design, secure funding for, conduct, and publish original 
research. The preferred candidate will be a specialist capable of applying 
social and/or economic science associated with ecosystem services in the 
context of natural resource management, and is responsible for conducting 
research to aid in the conservation and management of public lands. The 
preferred candidate’s research program must focus on one or more contexts 
relevant to the USGS science strategy and mission (including but not limited 
to, climate change, energy development, natural hazards, drought, decision 
sciences, or decision support systems/tools;

The preferred candidate will have:

1) demonstrated record of publishing original social or economic research 
results in high impact journals;
2) experience conducting social or economic science investigations applying a 
social-ecological systems approach to natural resource management and decision 
making; in a subject area relevant to the USGS mission;
3) experience working on interdisciplinary science/management teams;
4) experience designing and applying data collection methods and statistical 
analysis or analytical modeling techniques;
