Academic Level A: $77,614 - $83,054 per annum; Academic Level B: $87,242 - 
$102,941 per annum. Level of appointment and commencing salary will be in 
accordance with qualifications and experience.

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies is seeking to appoint an 
outstanding early-career research fellow with expertise in human geography, 
development studies, social psychology, behavioural economics, sociology, 
political science or other relevant social science discipline. You will be 
provided with exceptional support to develop a social science research program 
that suits your interests and abilities.This is a full time research-only 
position. You will be required to conduct research independently and as part of 
a team, and make original contributions to the research aims of the ARC Centre 
of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. Initially, this is a fixed term 
appointment of three years. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant social 
science discipline with an exceptional publication track record for their stage 
of career. Previous experience in coral reefs is not essential.
Position Overview
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies is the world's leading 
coral reef research group, encompassing >250 researchers and graduate students, 
with ongoing research projects in 30 countries. The vision of the Centre is to 
provide the knowledge necessary for understanding the world's coral reefs and 
their interaction with people in order to foster their sustainable use, secure 
the benefits they provide to tropical societies and economies, and enhance the 
effectiveness of coral reef management world-wide. The Centre fosters a 
multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional approach to its research programs 
drawing on expertise from its collaborating universities and other national and 
international partners.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Conduct research independently and as part of a team which contributes to 
the achievement of the aims of the ARC Centre of Excellence
2. Publish research in high-quality journals.
3. Plan, prepare and submit research proposals to external funding agencies
4. Contribute to the research, mentoring and outreach culture of the Centre
5. Co-supervise graduate students enrolled at James Cook University, where 
appropriate.
Selection Criteria
1. PhD in related discipline.
2. Formal training in the social sciences and/or a proven ability to conduct 
cutting edge social science research.
3. Excellent publication record for stage of career.
4. Evidence of outstanding research ability.
5. Established national and international links with appropriate research 
organisations and personnel.
6. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
 Appointment period
Appointment will be fixed term for three years.
