Dear colleagues,
My apologies for a repeat posting but I really want to encourage
applications for this position from GEP folks as well as your help in
spreading the word. I came to the Illinois Institute of Technology last
spring and have been very excited about the possibility for growth. My
department offers an interdisciplinary social science degree in Social and
Economic Development Policy which seeks to engage issues related to
sustainability, broadly defined. And we have just started planning, in
cooperation with our Humanities Department, a new degree in Science,
Technology and Society. We are hiring at the associate professor level
because we are looking for someone who can help provide leadership and
direction for the social science components of the program. Advanced
assistant profs are encouraged to apply. The Humanities folks include
scholars doing history and philosophy of science and engineering, ethics,
digital humanities and big data, making the possibilities for
collaboration, cross-fertilization and innovation very exciting. We, quite
honestly, do not have a specific discipline in mind for the successful
candidate: political science, sociology, anthropology, geography,
economics, planning, etc. or relevant interdisciplinary fields, will be
given equal consideration. The only exceptions are psychology and history
since they belong to different departments here.

I would be happy to answer any questions.

Best wishes,
Jonathan
