All, As some of you may have come across this in the press, some degree of
backstory on a colleague of mine may help. Mark is a superb colleague doing
excellent and rigorous research and is a recipient of an NSF CAREER award
among many other honors. Best, Ron

Subject: ENVS faculty member (me) under attack by right-wing media

Hi Ron,

My article, "Glaciers, Gender, and Science," appeared in the journal
Progress in Human Geography a couple months ago
(http://phg.sagepub.com/content/early/2016/01/08/0309132515623368.abstract).
Last week, it was brought into national news by conservative media
misrepresenting and mischaracterizing the research and its funding.

Science magazine posted an interview with me on Friday titled "Author of
'feminist glaciology' study reflects on sudden appearance in culture wars,"
noting that I am the "latest target of conservative-leaning bloggers
questioning federally funded research." Here is the link if you want more
information:

Thank you.

Best,

Mark Carey
