Dear colleagues,
I am writing to bring to your attention an important and time-sensitive
opportunity to provide wide community input into the IPCC's Special
Report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 deg C above
pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission
pathways. The Scientific Steering Committee of that report is organizing
a scoping meeting in Geneva in mid-August. Prior to that meeting, the
SSC is inviting members of the broad scientific community to provide
critical inputs into the scoping process that will occur in Geneva. This
input is being collected via a simple online survey. It won't take very
long to provide your input, but we urge you to be frank, ambitious,
think outside the box and challenge the scoping meeting to take on as
broad a set of ideas as possible.
To date, the straw person vision for that report is broadly scoped, but
is heavily emphasizing global integrated modeling, physical science, and
- by comparison - is less strong or sophisticated on the countless
social science/human dimensions of making a transition to 1.5 degrees.
Thus, inputs from everyone are welcome, but particularly, we invite
strong input from our collective social science community. The deadline
is coming up fast (15 July 2016), so please don't delay your input.
The pre-scoping questionnaire is available on the 1.5 SR website:

Thank you kindly,
Susi Moser
