Dear colleagues,

As a highlight of coming attractions, Editor-in-Chief, Tony Rosenbaum, and I
wanted to announce that the latest issue of the Journal of Environmental
Studies and Sciences (6:3)<http://link.springer.com/journal/13412/6/3/page/1>
is now published and available for AESS members and anyone with a Springer Link
subscription.

You might be particularly interested in Paul Harris and John Barkdull's
assessment of climate adaptation research. They admit several advances here but
warn that "types of environmental studies that are necessary to foster
effective policies for adaptation must be much more mindful of the quite high
potential for dangerous, potentially catastrophic, climate change."
Consequently, "Transformational, even radical, theories and approaches may be
essential to understanding and preparing for a future that is greatly affected
by climate change."

Further, Martha Richmond has organized a mini-symposium on chemicals regulation
with studies on the, "consider the limitations, controversies, and
opportunities inherent in the present US policies regulating synthetic
chemicals" with not only insight into regulation but pedagogy. As well, Priya
Kurian and Debashish Munshi organized a symposium on public engagement with new
and emerging technologies. The articles in this symposium critique the
superficial use of public engagement in decision-making, while "public
policies too often continue to neglect core questions about issues around
responsibility, accountability, and transparency in decision-making processes
around new and emerging technologies."

This is only a sample of the 24 articles in this issue, which can be found
here<http://link.springer.com/journal/13412/6/3/page/1>.
