The School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability (SESES)
invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in
Environmental Social Science. This is a full-time, benefit eligible,
tenure-track appointment.  We seek an interdisciplinary environmental
social scientist who will contribute to existing strengths in environmental
research, teaching and practice in SESES. We welcome applicants with
interdisciplinary training and research experience in a variety of fields,
including but not limited to the areas of environmental policy and
governance, conservation biology, economics, geography, environmental
studies and sciences, sociology, sustainable development and climate
science. The successful candidate will work in coupled natural and human
systems and at the interface between science and policy.



This position builds on university strengths in Environmental
Sustainability. Northern Arizona University seeks to bring together
scholars within SESES and across colleges (College of Engineering, Forestry
and Natural Sciences; College of Social and Behavioral Sciences; College of
Arts and Letters; and W. A. Franke College of Business) to foster
interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and a range of expertise to secure
large interdisciplinary sustainability focused grants.   Scholars are
sought to develop new collaborations that will enable interdisciplinary
science-based, community-oriented scholarship and teaching on local to
global sustainability challenges. The successful applicant will contribute
to enhancing and expanding the new SESES Interdisciplinary PhD, building
research capacity in coupled human and natural systems.



Minimum qualifications for the rank of Assistant Professor PhD degree in a
social science, or in an interdisciplinary environmental program with a
social science emphasis conferred by Aug 14, 2017.



Preferred qualifications include: Interdisciplinary PhD and/or broad
interdisciplinary training, Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary
research on environmental or conservation policy, ecosystem services,
sustainability science, water, climate, energy, or land conservation,
Demonstrated use of quantitative social science research methods including
quantitative modeling in coupled socio-environmental systems, Demonstrated
ability in interdisciplinary teaching at the university level including
sustainability concepts and environmental policy, Demonstrated success
mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in interdisciplinary
research, Demonstrated ability to develop a promising research program
including writing successful interdisciplinary grants and publications,
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from a variety of
culturally diverse backgrounds, Willingness and ability to offer courses
that complement the existing strengths of the SESES environmental and
sustainability curricula, Potential to develop research collaboration with
other SESES and NAU researchers on campus, and with the community and
region, Experience or interest in sustainability or environmental policy
research related to the Southwestern United States or Latin America



Salary range is $63,500 - $69,000 and commensurate with qualifications and
experience at hire. This is a full time benefit eligible tenure track
position.  This position begins August 14, 2017. Review of applications

Environmental Science & Policy, MS in Climate Science and Solutions and an
Interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree. SESES also offers B.S and M.S degrees in
Geology. Our programs are supported by faculty from across campus including
sustainability related faculty from the Biological Sciences, Engineering &
Professional programs, the School of Forestry, the College of Arts and
Letters, the College of Social, Behavioral Sciences, the W. A. Franke
College of Business.
