Dear all,

Dublin City University is leading an EU-funded (H2020) European Training
Network entitled "*Global India
<https://www4.dcu.ie/ireland-india-institute/Global-India.shtml>*". This is
a collaborative PhD programme involving six leading European universities,
six leading Indian universities, and six non-university partners.

We are currently advertising three-year PhD scholarships under this
programme. One of the scholarship themes is "*Energy security and
sustainable development: conflicting priorities in EU-India relations*".

A brief description of the proposed topic is below, though this is intended
to provide guidance and applicants are welcome to shape this according to
their own interests:

Despite seemingly complementary interests in the fields of energy and
environment, India and the EU have struggled to forge a cooperative
relationship in these areas. A changing geopolitical landscape, including
the election of US president Donald Trump, has made the search for common
ground between other key players on climate and development, including
India and the EU, more important than ever. This PhD project will evaluate
the respective approaches of India and the EU and institutional mechanisms
for cooperation as a basis for explaining this aspect of the EU-India
relationship.

The successful applicant will be based primarily in Dublin City University
for the PhD and will spend one semester at one of the Indian partner
universities as well as having a work placement in one of the
non-university partners.

Applicants must have a masters degree in a relevant discipline, and
excellent English. They must have less than 4 years (full time equivalent)
research experience, and cannot already hold a doctorate. Mobility rules
stipulate that candidates must not have lived for more than 12 months in
Ireland during the three years prior to 1 September 2017.

The salary will be €37,903 per year, while those with dependent family will
be paid a higher rate of €42,492 per year (both subject to Irish taxation
and deductions).

DCU has been in the top 50 international universities under 50 years old in
the QS "Top 50 Under 50" rankings for the past four years, and was ranked
in the top 150 universities globally in Politics and International Studies
in the most recent QS subject rankings.

If you are interested in applying, you are welcome to get in touch with me (
[email protected]) to discuss a prospective application.
