Dear Gep-eders/AESS-ers-

For the last four ISA conventions, a small group of intrepid panelists and I
have run the Fred Friendly Seminar in International Affairs. They have
covered such topics as pandemic flu in the Sudan, energy security in the
Arctic, water wars in Pakistan and India, and the collapse of Venezuela the
petro-state. The format is that of an unfolding scenario in which the
panelists are assigned roles to play and have to think on their feet, make
decisions with incomplete information, and react to live developments in the
story. There's no crisis we can't make happen! :)

Now I am putting out the call for new panelists. The topic this year is
going to be food sovereignty in the horn of Africa. It's a fun panel, but
not merely so - this format is an ongoing attempt to inject some policy
applicability into international studies, which IMO ISA needs. The deadline
for Innovative Panel submissions is May 15, so if anyone would like to
participate, drop me an e-mail and tell me your area of expertise. See you
in San Francisco!
