Hi everyone:

When and if the ISA submission system actually works in the next 24 hours, I
will be submitting a panel proposal but we still need a discussant.

Here's the abstract for the panel:

Title: The Impact of Contestation over Relevant Knowledge on International
Environmental Cooperation

Abstract:

The shift from 'environmental protection' to 'sustainability' overlaps in time
with a general rise in contestation not only on the substance of particular
policies and the differential impact of implementing them on different states
or groups within states but also on what counts as scientific knowledge, how
scientific knowledge becomes 'usable knowledge' that can be incorporated into
policy processes, and whose knowledge is relevant to formulating and
implementing policy. All of the debates about what is reliable scientific or
other expert knowledge, how that knowledge becomes useful, and how it can be
used to improve governance now central to improving global environmental
governance have also been the subject of study and debate among scholars of
philosophy of science, social studies of science, political science, sociology,
economics, and policy studies. Those seeking to understand and improve
international environmental governance for sustainability thus have many
resources available.

Participants:

Jörg Balsiger, University of Geneva; Battistina Cugusi, University of Geneva;
