Dear GEP-ED,

I'm writing to make sure that you're all aware of a new task force on
oceans governance that I'm heading up under the auspices of the Earth
Systems Governance Project (ESG). For those of you who are unfamiliar with
it, ESG focuses on facilitating cross-cutting research on environmental
governance issues and on translating findings into the policy arena. It's
an interesting and diverse group of scholars, with excellent geographic
representation from all over the world. In spearheading the taskforce, I'm
joined by Judith van Leeuwen (Wageningen University, Netherlands), Atsushi
Ishii (Tohoku University, Japan), Candace May (South Dakota State
University, USA), and Leandra Gonçalves (University of Sao Paolo, Brazil).

At this early stage, we're collecting information from interested scholars
so that we can shape the task force research program in as democratic a
manner as possible. To that end, we've put together a call for expressions
of interest:

http://www.earthsystemgovernance.org/call-for-expressions-of-interest-taskforce-on-ocean-governance/

If you'd like to join the task force or just provide some input, please
fill out this short (5-10 minute) online survey that will be open until
August 1:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TF_Oceans

We're planning to spread the word about this task force widely, so
apologies in advance if this invitation hits your inbox more than once.
Rest assured, it just means that we really want you all to join the effort
so that we can build a vibrant network of scholars. Although ESG will
facilitate, the task force is free to pursue its own goals and develop its
own products, including collected volumes, special features, workshops, and
grants. This is why we need your input.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Thanks and best wishes,
D.G. Webster
