Scope of Job    
The Department of Political Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande 
Valley invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty 
member in International Relations to begin September 1, 2018. The department is 
particularly interested in applicants with teaching interests and a research 
agenda that includes international relations theory, globalization, and global 
governance. Ability to teach US Foreign Policy and/or Western European 
Governments is a plus. The department is open to a wide variety of 
methodologies and critical theoretical perspectives. This position continues 
the department’s effort to build an undergraduate and graduate program anchored 
in political science, while incorporating topics, concepts, methods, and 
courses that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries. The successful 
candidate will teach upper-division and graduate level courses in their areas 
of substantive specialization as well as required lower-division courses in 
U.S. Federal Government & Politics.

Minimum Qualifications  
1) Ph.D. in Political Science or related field from an accredited institution 
of higher education. 2) for tenured appointment at Associate or Full Professor 
level demonstrated record of research and publication appropriate for 
appointment and tenure at a senior rank. 3) demonstrated potential for teaching 
excellence for appointment at the junior level or established record of 
teaching excellence for appointment at the senior level.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security 
sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at 
least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional 
Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
