Hi all, We are seeking participants for a roundtable discussion at the 2018 Earth Systems Governance conference on the role of philanthropic foundations in environmental governance. Please see below for a preliminary abstract, and contact Ash Enrici (ash.enr...@colostate.edu<mailto:ash.enr...@colostate.edu>) by March 14th if you’re interested in participating.
Philanthropic Foundations and Environmental Governance Social scientists understand organized philanthropy as a political force in the public sphere and grant-making as an act of governance that involves setting and advancing public agendas through the redistribution of resources. Through grant-making activities supporting organizations, networking efforts, scientific research, and specific projects, philanthropies influence governance by creating consensus around particular agendas and shaping understandings of what should be governed and how. To date, however, there has been relatively little empirical research on foundations as environmental governance actors. Participants in this roundtable event will be invited to discuss their work and/or thoughts on the role of foundations in environmental governance as well as key questions for an empirical research agenda on this topic. Event organizers are Ash Enrici (Post-doctoral fellow, Colorado State University) and Rebecca Gruby (Assistant Professor, Colorado State University). ____________________________ Dr. Rebecca Gruby Assistant Professor Dept. of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources Colorado State University Phone: 970-491-5220 Skype: Rebecca.Gruby Web: Gruby Lab<https://sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu/rebeccagruby/> Human Dimensions of Large Marine Protected Areas Project<https://humansandlargempas.com/> -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "gep-ed" group.
