The Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology at the
Georg‐August‐Universität Göttingen invites applications for the position of

Associate Professor (Tenure Track) (W2 t.t. W3) for Forest Policy and
International Governance

This professorship is funded by the German Federal and State governments
through the programme “Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des
wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses (Nachwuchspakt)”. The initial appointment will
be limited to five years. The transition to the permanent position of Full
Professor (W3) takes effect following a successful evaluation.

The successful applicant is expected to represent the entire field of forest
policy, with a strong emphasis on international governance. Research will
centre around the analyses of international as well as national forest policies
and related processes and strategies, as well as their interdependencies. With
this research focus, the professor is expected to contribute to the development
of practical policy strategies that aim at the protection and sustainable use
of forests around the globe. The position will substantially strengthen the
following research priority areas of the faculty: “Sustainable Forestry and
Global Change” and “Use of forests and forest products”. Methodologically, we
expect the incumbent to apply empirical-analytical methods of the social
sciences. Candidates should have a strong track record in policy analysis of
international and national forestry, the analysis of international
forest-related governance systems and processes, forest-related cross-sectorial
analyses of nature conservation, climate, or regional development, as well as
on the analysis of international forest development policy.

Teaching assignments include courses for bachelor and master students of the
faculty, especially in the following programmes: „Tropical and International
Forestry“ and „Forest Management and Forest Utilization“. Due to the
international profile of the position, teaching is conducted partly in English
and in German.
We expect that the successful candidate will actively strengthen the
international profile of the courses offered by the faculty. Research-based
teaching is of high priority for the University of Göttingen.
Conditions for appointment can be found in Section 25 of the Higher Education
Law of Lower Saxony. As a Public Law Foundation, the University of Göttingen
has the right to appoint professors. Further details can be obtained upon
request.

Applications of international scientists are highly encouraged. The University
is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer. We specifically encourage
women to apply. Disabled persons with appropriate qualifications and aptitude
for the position will be given special consideration.

Please submit all application documents including curriculum vitae, a list of
publications, an account of your teaching and research activities and details
of external funding in the form of one pdf document no later than 30th April
2018 to the Dean of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology via
electronic web system:
