Dear colleagues,
José Manuel and I were really happy to receive more abstracts than expected for our panel proposal on "Climate and the City: Alternative theoretical approaches to the study of Transnational Climate Change Governance".
Seeing the potential for an additional panel on related issues, we wish to put together a second proposal. Please see below for a preliminary abstract and do not hesitate to contact us if interested.
Climate and the City II: A
Discussion about Innovation and/in/of the City
Over the last decades, the discipline of International
Relations has witnessed the rise of scholarly works on cities in climate governance. Moving away from state-centric approaches, these analyses argue that cities are experimenting and developing new ways to deal with this wicked problem. Nevertheless, there
is still much to develop. Are cities really innovative? If so, how? Is this innovation desirable? What does it bring to the studies on global governing of climate change? This panel proposes to discuss this fundamental debate by inviting any theoretical and
empirical paper exploring the diverse and innovative ways cities are dealing with climate change, and their effects on the urban and global environment research.
Abstracts of no more than 200 words should be submitted along with
title (no more than 50 words), tags, and author information by May 27th to Marielle Papin-Manjarrez ([email protected]). The panel proposal will then be submitted by June 1st.
All the best,
Marielle Papin-Manjarrez

Envoyé : mardi 8 mai 2018 13:40 à : gep-ed Objet : [gep-ed] Panel proposal for ISA, Toronto 2019 on Transnational Climate Change Governance Dear colleagues,
Marielle and I are putting together a panel at the ISA Annual Conference in Toronto next year on alternative theoretical approaches to the study of Transnational Climate Change Governance. All theoretical and empirical papers exploring these issues are welcome. Please see below for a preliminary abstract.
Climate and the City: Alternative theoretical approaches to the study of Transnational Climate Change Governance
In the past decades, transnational actors have gained great influence in the global arena and now actively participating in shaping climate politics. Yet research on transnational relations in climate governance is dominated by state-centered theoretical approaches which emphasize the effects of these relations on international actors, regimes, and institutions. Although these approaches are crucial, they do not cover the diversity and complexity of transnational relations. Thus, the analysis of different actors may imply the use of different tools. In that sense, this panel focuses on urban settings to explore alternatives approaches in the analysis of transnational climate governance. It makes special emphasis on multidisciplinary studies and innovative methodologies that contribute to a more effective communication across theoretical and methodological boundaries.
The abstracts should be no more than 200 words. They have to include a title (no more than 50 words), tags, and the author(s) information (position, institution, and e-mail). All abstracts should be sent by May 20th to Marielle Papin-Manjarrez ([email protected]). Notification of the acceptance will be sent by e-mail by May 31st the latest. The panel proposal will then be submitted by June 1st.
Cheers
