Project description

The department of Political Science announces a vacant position for a 
postdoctoral fellow in the research project Climate action in the post-Paris 
context. The role of non-state initiatives in the transformation of Sweden into 
a fossil-free welfare state, funded by the Swedish Research Council for 
Sustainable Development (Formas) 2018-2020. The project seeks to advance the 
research frontier and provide policy-relevant knowledge in the post-Paris 
policy landscape by examining the interplay between the Swedish state and 
domestic and transnational climate initiatives in the political quest for 
decarbonization. The project is led by Professor Karin Bäckstrand and Linköping

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility for the postdoctoral fellow is to conduct research 
within the research project in collaboration with other projects participants. 
Research task will involve data collection, analysis and dissemination of 
results through scholarly journals and conferences. The fellow will be part of 
a research group engaged in research on environmental politics, policy and 
learning (EPPLE) at the Department of Political Science, Stockholm University. 
The position involves 20 percent teaching.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. 
Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent 
degree from another country. The applicant should have a PhD degree in 
Political Science or a related field.

Assessment criteria
We seek candidates with a PhD in Political Science or related disciplines with 
a background in environmental and climate politics, international relations, 
comparative politics and/or policy studies. We are particularly interested in 
candidates with a background and familiar with mixed-methods, as the project 
employs a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methods such as surveys, 
network analysis, discourse analysis, and semi-structured interviews. Previous 
experience of quantitative methods is a merit but not a requirement. The 
candidate must have demonstrated excellent skills in academic written English. 
Additional merits include capacity to work in a cross-disciplinary team of 
researchers and to communicate research findings to wider audiences beyond 
academia.

The PhD degree should have been completed no more than three years before the 
deadline for the applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special 
circumstances (such as sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected 
positions in trade unions, or similar).

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment (80 percent research and 20 percent 
teaching) for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under 
special circumstances. Start date 2018-09-01 or as per agreement.
