------------------------------

The University of California, Santa Barbara will host the 5th Annual
Environmental Politics and Governance Conference on June 27-29, 2019,
building on the success of previous conferences in Seattle
<http://depts.washington.edu/envirpol/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Wesley2015_Brochure.pdf>,
Zurich
<http://depts.washington.edu/envirpol/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/EPG_2016_Conference_Program.pdf>,
Bloomington
<https://spea.indiana.edu/faculty-research/conferences/epg/index.html>, and
Stockholm
<https://www.statsvet.su.se/om-oss/evenemang/epg2018/conference-program>.
We request proposals for papers that address important or innovative
theoretical ideas with rigorous quantitative or qualitative research
designs in all areas of environmental politics and governance. The main
goals of the conference are to showcase the best empirical research on
environmental politics and governance from across relevant disciplines and
to provide a venue for scholars to strengthen their networks and shape
future research directions.

Format

A significant majority of the conference will consist of presentations and
discussion in a single plenary session. Depending on the proposals and
interest, we may organize smaller group, interactive sessions that involve
intensive feedback for a few papers or research plans. We will accept
proposals for standard research papers, as well as for research designs or
pre-analysis plans of ambitious projects that involve primary data
collection and that will be implemented in the near future. Please indicate
in your proposal if you are interested in having your work discussed in the
interactive format. All proposals will automatically be considered for
plenary panel presentations.

The conference will feature 32-42 papers reviewed by the international
steering committee and selected by the conference chairs. All papers will
first be double-blind reviewed by members of the international steering
committee. The conference chairs will rely on these reviews when deciding
on the final program, with additional attention paid to representing the
breadth of topics and new research in environmental politics and governance
on the program.

(Note: Proposals by members of the international steering committee will
undergo the same procedure. The conference chairs have recused themselves
from presenting at the conference.)

Submission Process

Paper proposals should consist of electronic submission of an anonymous PDF
file with a detailed abstract of 1,000 words that outlines the research
question, theory, data, and methods, along with the contributions to the
field of environmental politics and governance. The abstract may include
one table or figure, as appropriate. We will consider works-in-progress
only. Please do not submit published, forthcoming, or accepted work.
Proposals should be submitted at the EPG Conference Submission Portal (
https://goo.gl/forms/uJiHT5xGg0MUoWWD2).

Logistics

The 2019 conference will be held at the University of California, Santa
Barbara Faculty Club <https://www.theclub.ucsb.edu/>. The meeting space
overlooks the ocean and is a five minute walk to the beach. The Santa
Barbara airport (SBA) is minutes away from the conference venue. Bus
service runs approximately every two hours from Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX) to Santa Barbara, with the trip taking approximately two
hours in one direction. All conference participants are responsible for
making their own travel arrangements to Santa Barbara. The organizers will
provide assistance in reaching the conference venue from Santa Barbara
airport or from local bus and train stations.

There is no conference registration fee and the organizers will cover local
food expenses for one author per accepted paper. Participants are
responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses. The organizers may
have limited support to cover lodging expenses for doctoral students and
scholars from developing countries. Please contact the conference
organizers at <epg2...@bren.ucsb.edu> to inquire about possibilities. There
is limited space available for co-authors, who will have to pay for their
own travel, lodging, and food expenses.

Participants should plan to arrive on Thursday, June 27 by mid-afternoon
and depart on Sunday, June 30 in the morning. Only those who can attend the
entire conference will be invited to participate.
