At the University of Dundee a new initiative has just been announced to enable overseas scholars to visit the University (www.dundee.ac.uk<http://www.dundee.ac.uk>) and work with colleagues here. The timescale is fairly tight this year – the visit must be before the end of July - and I am not sure how far the funding will stretch in terms of covering all relevant costs. Happy to hear from interested scholars. ISSR Global Scholar Programme *New in 2019* The Institute for Social Sciences Research (ISSR) at the University of Dundee is a collaboration between the Schools of Social Science and Education & Social Work to foster cross disciplinary research across our five research themes: Health and Wellbeing; Social Justice and Social Change; Governance, Policy and Regulation; Environment; and Innovation in Methods and Data Analytics. Key ISSR initiatives include an annual ISSR forum, a seminar series, Interdisciplinary Incubator Grants, writing space & retreats. A next step is to increase our external engagement in order to enrich the research environment and interact with critical thinkers and rising social scientists from across the globe. To this end, we will fund up to five Global Scholars in 2019, each related to one or more of the above research themes. Successful applicants will be expected to engage with academics in Dundee oninternationally significant interdisciplinary research, scholarly collaboration, and networking activities. They will be expected to be present in Dundee for up to three months, between April and July 2019. We encourage applications from established senior or mid-career academics, but also from early career researchers able to evidence exciting research trajectories. One post will be specifically reserved for an early-career researcher. We also actively encourage applicants from anywhere in the world. A modest budget will be available to each scholar towards travel and accommodation and they will be offered work space within the school. Scholars are expected to provide a proposal of work with Dundee staff (and beyond). Expected outcomes could include: Writing joint publication(s) Application for research funding Developing interdisciplinary connections across the Schools/university Providing a master class to PhD students Giving at least one seminar around the theme of their research collaboration, if possible as part of the ISSR forum held in late-June, or by separate arrangement Applying: Prospective applicants should apply [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>by 4pm on 28thFebruary 2019. The application should include: • A short proposal outlining the nature of the collaboration and work to be undertaken (max. 2 sides A4, font size 12point). • Acurriculum vitae, including a list of publications • Two supporting statements. One of the supporting statements must be from the member of University of Dundee staff with whom the applicant wishes to collaborate. • Applicants should ask their referees to send references directly to the ISSR Co-Directors [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> • Referees should comment on the nature and quality of the research proposal, as well as on the academic standing of the applicant. The selection of Global Scholars will be made by the ISSR steering groupand successful applicants will be notified by 15thMarch 2019.
