Project description The project Glocalizing Climate Governance: The Role of Integrated Governance for a Just and Legitimate Adaptation to Climate Risks (GlocalClim) is funded by The Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Formas). The aim of this project is to understand the causes and consequences of global integrated governance responses for local and national climate adaptation, with a special focus on the global south. The project will provide new insights for Swedish and global academics and stakeholders into challenges and opportunities associated with integrating climate change adaptation into different policy sectors. The project employs a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methods such as surveys, time-series analysis, structured comparisons, and semi-structured interviews. Main responsibilities To carry out high quality research and publish the results in international scientific journals in the fields of International Relations and environmental social science. More specifically, the postdoctoral fellow will contribute to the collection of a novel and large-scale dataset on climate change adaptation and global governance institutions, perform statistical analyses such as regression analysis, and write articles on climate risks, climate change adaptation, and human security, to name but a few examples. To collaborate with the other project participants. Qualification requirements Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country. Assessment criteria The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. In the appointment process, special emphasis will be given to knowledge within the area of environmental governance. Special emphasis will also be given to scientific capabilities demonstrated through own research, specifically: documented capacities to work with large social science datasets, experience in gathering and managing large-n datasets, documented experience of regression analysis methods, and documented ability to write academic texts in English. Strong emphasis will be placed on abilities to work independently and in an organized way, carefully document syntax and other files, documented abilities to cooperate with others and to contribute to a good working atmosphere, as well as abilities and general suitability to carry out work tasks. Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills as well as capabilities to engage with and share research findings with the broader community. Emphasis will also be placed on very good understanding of and ability to communicate in English. Good knowledge of Swedish, or interest and ability to learn Swedish, is an asset because the language will be needed to communicate with policymakers and the general public. Terms of employment The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2019-09-02 or as per agreement.
