Subject: [China_Middle_East] Occidental College Associate Professor in Global
Political Economy/Development Practice

A search in Global Political Economy at the Associate Professor with tenure or
at the Advanced Assistant levels. We are looking for applicants who have
demonstrated an ambitious research and practice agenda with a particular
interest in applicants whose work focuses on areas such as the Sustainable
Development Goals; Human Rights- based Approaches to Economic Development;
Equity/Equality in economic structures (with reference to race, class,
identity, and/or gender and the imperative of democratic inclusion); or
alternative approaches to studying dominant approaches to international trade,
globalization and other topic areas in Global Political Economy. More
information on the Young Initiative is here:

The hire will eventually be expected to play a leadership role in the Young
Initiative Committee, including its rotating chair-ship.

Priority will be given to applicants who have demonstrated a research agenda
that leverages substantial fieldwork with international or regional
organizations and/or transnational NGOs. An expectation will be that the hire
will continue Occidental College’s engagement with on-the-ground work in
international affairs, at the local/Los Angeles, transnational, and/or global
levels. A priority is the ability to advance the College's mission and an
understanding of the distinctiveness of the Liberal Arts culture.

Occidental College is a highly-selective, urban liberal arts college recognized
for its diverse student body, its commitment to academic excellence and equity,
and its undergraduate research programs. Named one of America’s most beautiful
campuses, the College is situated in the vibrant neighborhoods of Eagle Rock
and Highland Park in Northeast Los Angeles. As one of the few urban liberal
arts colleges in the country, Occidental affords students and faculty unique
engagement with communities, cultural institutions, and academic resources
throughout Los Angeles. Occidental College is an Equal Opportunity Employer and
does not unlawfully discriminate against employees or applicants on the basis
of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender

origin, ancestry, citizenship, age, marital status, physical disability, mental
disability, medical condition, genetic characteristic or information, sexual
orientation, military and veteran status, or any other characteristic protected
by State or Federal Law. We strongly encourage all underrepresented candidates,
especially women and persons of color, to apply.

Candidates should send their application as an electronic file to Ms. Chamnan
Lim at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. A complete application

Young Initiative in Global Political Economy; (2) a discussion of the
applicant’s academic research and field practice; (3) a statement of teaching
experience and philosophy; (4) a scholarly work sample; (5) Curriculum Vitae;
