Subject: [gep-ed] free trade and environment items

All,

A while back I asked about free trade/environment readings. Here are the
suggestions -- 6 are attached, the rest you will need to track down.

Best, and stay healthy everyone,

Ron

=================

Kevin M. Adams; Stockholm Environment Institute
Books

  * Downey, Liam. Inequality, Democracy and the Environment.
  *   Goldman, Michael. Imperial Nature.
  *   Chang, Ha-Joon. Bad Samaritans.
  * Work on Ecologically Unequal Exchange - Andy Jorgensen’s work at BC would
be interesting where he tests various theoretical propositions against
ecological footprint indicators.

Doreen Stabinsky

of the Multilateral Trading Regime. American Journal of International Law,

Sammy Barkin

  * “Three Ways to Study the Global Politics of Trade and the Environment.”
In Justin Alger and Peter Dauvergne, eds., A Research Agenda for Global
Environmental Politics (Cheltenham: Edward Elgar, 2018).

  * “Trade and Environment.” In Lisa Martin, ed., The Oxford Handbook of the
Political Economy of International Trade (Oxford: Oxford University Press,

J. Timmons Roberts

  * Peter Newell and I did that volume for Wiley-Blackwell a few years ago on
Globalization and the Environment that might have somethings of interest. TOC
is here:

  * Another line of stuff is the carbon (or pollution) embodied in trade.
Julia Steinberger led on some articles with me, Will Lamb, and Glen Peters.

Sikina Jinnah

  * Morin, Jean-Frédéric, Amandine Orsini, and Sikina Jinnah. (2020) "Chapter
10 Trade and the Environment" in Global Environmental Politics: Understanding
the Governance of the Earth. Oxford University Press: Oxford, UK. Largely
written like a lit review so the ref list might be useful. Attached.

Kathy McAfee

  * Ron, IMO (not humble), carbon markets - trade in carbon credits for
ecosystem services, mainly carbon sequestration, is the most controversial and
important 'free trade and environment' issue today. The FCCC ministerials have
all but collapsed over it (Paris Agreement Article 6) for the past two years.
  * The Contradictory Logic of Global Ecosystem Services Markets - Kathleen
McAfee Attached Addresses the (flawed) theoretical basis of the
economic-liberal paradigm on which such trading is based and discusses the
implications for development and conservation worldwide.
