>From IBES Director [email protected] ----------
Dear IBES Faculty: I'm excited to let you know that we've received final approval to advertise for two new Lecturer positions. These are career-track positions with a 4 course per year teaching load, which is lighter than many (or perhaps most) liberal arts colleges. These are also "regular" faculty members, so these individuals will have full voting privileges at Brown, great benefits, etc. We're casting a really wide net and are open to any specialization of environmental research. Here's a link to the advertisement: http://apply.interfolio.com/89853 I've also pasted the ad below. We're advertising this in a wide variety of outlets, but I'd be grateful if you could post this to any relevant listservs, forward this to colleagues or prospective candidates, etc. All the best, Dov Lecturer in Environment and Society Brown University: DOF: Environment and Society Location Providence, RI Open Date Aug 15, 2021 Deadline Oct 10, 2022 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description The Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) invites applications for two new career-track Lecturer positions. IBES faculty have training across a wide variety of disciplines, including History, Economics, Sociology, Ecology, Earth Sciences, Anthropology and others. The Lecturer positions are open to any discipline or area of specialization that applies a disciplinary perspective to understanding environmental challenges. Key examples of disciplinary foci include Agriculture, Geography, Environmental Law and Policy, Geospatial Information Technologies, Marine Science, and Environment and Inequality (Environmental Justice, Political Ecology, etc.). We are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching. Lecturers at Brown are members of the regular faculty, have voting privileges, competitive salaries, full benefits, a career progression ladder, and an academic leave policy that is analogous to sabbatical. Lecturers within IBES are expected to teach 4 courses per year, and contribute to student advising and university service. While the principal criteria for evaluation of performance is based on teaching excellence, Lecturers are also expected to make other professional contributions, e.g., through the development of advanced pedagogical approaches, community service or research. Qualifications Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the time of commencing work. Application Instructions Diversity, equity and inclusion are integral to the commitment of IBES and Brown University. Accordingly, IBES seeks qualified candidates who can contribute to racial equity, diversity and inclusion through service, mentorship, teaching and scholarship. Further, IBES is keenly interested in diversifying and encourages applications from diverse candidates. Candidates from historically underrepresented group(s) in higher education are encouraged to apply. All candidates should submit: (1) a cover letter describing their interest in the position, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a teaching statement, (4) two course syllabi or draft syllabi, (5) copies of teaching evaluations (if available), (6) a diversity and inclusion statement, and (7) the contact information for three individuals able to provide letters of recommendation. Full consideration will be given to applications received by October 10; we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. -- Dov F.
