Job description
FASoS is seeking an assistant professor with demonstrated excellence in
teaching and research in social or political studies of European societies. We
seek a candidate with a demonstrable interest, and preferably expertise, in how
climate change is addressed in the European project. The candidate ideally has
a general knowledge of politics and governance in contemporary European
societies, preferably also including the role of digital technologies. The
candidate boasts a firm grasp on social science methods, with a particular
focus on quantitative/digital methods.
You will contribute to the teaching and coordination of courses and supervision
of internships, projects and theses in the BA and MA programmes of the Faculty
of Arts and Social Sciences, in particular the BA Digital Society and the BA
and MA European Studies. The division of teaching and research duties follows
the regular division used at the Faculty of 60% teaching and management and 40%
research. The research time can be extended through external fundraising.
Your research will be located in the Research Institute for Arts and Social
Sciences (see:

You will partake in the interdisciplinary research programme Politics and
Culture in Europe (PCE) and contribute to one of its four research clusters.
You are expected to attract external funding that is related to the faculty’s
core research themes and set up international research projects.
Who are you? Requirements
You have a PhD degree in the social sciences, such as sociology, policy
studies, economic geography or innovation studies. After earning the PhD you
have gained relevant work experience in an academic position at a university.
You are an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and have demonstrated ability
in thesis supervision and teaching coordination roles. Experience with course
development is an asset. You are able to stimulate student learning and to
maximize student participation in our system of small-scale problem based
learning (PBL). Experience with teaching in international classrooms is
preferable.
You display outstanding quality in research and have experience with
interdisciplinarity. You have a relevant international network and a track
record or potential for grant acquisition. International peer-reviewed academic
publications are imperative. You are a team player, have an open, effective
management style, and are ready to fulfil an administrative role in the faculty.
Fluency in English is a prerequisite, while non-Dutch speaking applicants
should be willing to learn Dutch (basic level).
Starting date: Preferably 1 August 2022
