Dear Colleagues,

In these times of intense discussions around the Carbon Border Adjustment
Mechanism and Climate clubs, I am pleased to share our last research paper,
published in Environmental Politics, analyzing the political barriers to
linking Emissions Trading Schemes of countries with diverging climate ambitions
and political-economic characteristics.

Studying the crucial Northeast Asian region, we take a deep dive into the
perception of carbon pricing international cooperation. We surveyed a wide
range of stakeholders from China, Japan, and Korea involved in negotiating the
Paris Agreement Article 6 rulebook.

Our results find three different kinds of political barriers challenging to
overcome, revealing profound confidence issues between partners.
