Dear GEP-ed colleagues I hope you are all doing well, I have two pieces of good news
*New Book * my new book is out in the USA today, and on 14 June everywhere else. Duffy, R. (2022) *Security and Conservation: The Politics of the Illegal Wildlife Trade <https://yalebooks.co.uk/display.asp?K=9780300230185>* (Yale University Press) In it I use a political ecology approach to understand how and why conservation and security are converging around tackling the illegal wildlife trade. The book covers definitions of wildlife crime, donor funding patterns, the expansion of militarisation, the evidence base (or lack thereof) for links between terrorism and poaching, the role of technologies and tech philanthropists, and how militaries are learning from trials in conservation. The book is the main outcome of my work on th BIOSEC Project. *Beastly Business Project on illegal wildlife trade in Europe* Our first newsletter is out, which details all that the team have been up to - eg fieldwork by Dr George Iordachescu in Romania, Dr Teresa Lappe-Osthege in Cyprus and Dr Laura Gutierrez in Northern Ireland. Beastly Business Newsletter - Issue 1, April 2022 (mailchi.mp) <https://mailchi.mp/5d6c3f25e617/beastly-business-newsletter-issue-1-april-2022> This project directly arose out of the gaps identified by the BIOSEC Project, and involved a lovely process of co-designing a research grant with post doctoral fellows. We were delighted to get the funding from UK ESRC. Although not listed in the newsletter, in May we are likely to advertise a one year post doc on IWT in European eels, please do let good candidates know, and they can get in touch with me for more info. best wishes Rosaleen -- *I don't expect you to respond to my email outside your working hours. ** I respect your working pattern and I am looking forward to your response when * *available**.* *Latest publications:* Duffy, R.
