The University of St.Gallen and its School of Economics and Political Science
are inviting applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professorship in
Political Science with a focus on Climate Policy & Decision-Making (level of
employment at 75%). The position is co-sponsored by the Institute for Economy
and the Environment and the University’s Climate Solutions Task Force, which
aims at contributing to the UN’s Race to Zero initiative through research,
teaching and outreach. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to
publish internationally recognized research in leading scientific journals at
the intersection of political science and climate change. In line with the
University’s mantra “From insight to impact”, we are looking for candidates who
can combine scientific rigour with practical relevance. The empirical focus
shall be on one or more of the domains most crucial for climate change
mitigation. Candidates are expected to have strong quantitative and/or
qualitative research skills and should be able to combine an international
perspective with relevance to the local context. Teaching can be in English
exclusively. The University's administrative language is German and speaking
the language is an advantage in interacting with local stakeholders. If the
successful candidate has no prior knowledge of German, he or she will be
expected to acquire a passive knowledge of the language within two years.

Candidates further should show dedication to teaching excellence, as evidenced
through student evaluations and/or a certificate in teaching and learning in
higher education, among others. They are expected to teach courses in the
International Affairs programmes as well as the interdisciplinary Managing
Climate Solutions programme of the University of St.Gallen, thereby further
strengthening ties between the Department of Political Science and the School
of Management. Experience with innovative teaching formats and the ability to
relate current trends in policy and business to engaging discussions in the
classroom are particularly appreciated, as is prior experience in supervising
bachelor’s and master’s theses.

We seek to fill the position per February 1st, 2023, or by mutual agreement.
Interviews are thought to be conducted in person on August 23rd, 2022. For
further information, please contact Professor Dr. Dirk Lehmkuhl, Chair of the
Appointment Committee ([email protected]
<mailto:[email protected]>).

The application should include a cover letter detailing your research
interests, teaching experience and motivation for applying (max. 3 pages),
curriculum vitae, publications list, a recent paper that best represents your
current research profile, and contact information for two references that we
may contact if shortlisted for the position. Candidates should submit their
application to the President of the University of St.Gallen, Professor Dr.
Bernhard Ehrenzeller online via www.unisg.ch/professorships
<https://www.unisg.ch/en/forschung/berufungen> at the latest by June 18, 2022.

The University of St.Gallen is strongly committed to promoting equal
opportunities and diversity. We specifically encourage women and applicants
with backgrounds underrepresented among our current faculty to apply.
