SUNY-ESF's Department of Environmental Studies invites qualified applications 
for an academic-year, non-tenure-track, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor 
or Instructor for the 2022-23 academic year, to begin August 22, 2022, with 
possibility for extension.

Responsibilities: This position is 100% teaching, and the visiting faculty 
member will teach four courses each semester.  Undergraduate courses could 
include History of the American Environmental Movement; Values, Attitudes, and 
the Environment; Sociology of Natural Resources; Research Methods for 
Environmental Studies; and Social Processes and the Environment. Graduate 
courses could include Environmental Policy Analysis; Environmental and Natural 
Resources Program Evaluation; Nature, Recreation and Society; and Global 
Perspectives on Environmental Justice. All undergraduate courses will be taught 
in person; Global Perspectives on Environmental Justice is an online course.

Areas of scholarly strengths in the Department of Environmental Studies include 
Environmental Policy and Communication, Environmental Governance, Environmental 
Education and Interpretation, and Environmental Justice.  The department offers 
BS degrees in Environmental Studies, and Environmental Education and 
Interpretation; MS and MPS degrees in Environmental Studies; and online 
graduate certificates in Environmental Leadership; Environmental and Science 
Communication and Public Relations; and a new certificate in Environmental 
Justice and Inequality.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct nationally recognized 
research on economic and agribusiness topics and have the capacity to engage 
with state and industry stakeholders to produce outreach directly relevant to 
value-added agriculture. For this position, value-added agriculture entails 
changing raw agricultural products into new products, adopting new production 
practices, or developing new markets, with research potentially ranging from 
broadly studying value-added supply chains to specific agricultural products or 
practices. The department will offer robust mentoring, an initial teaching 
reduction, research support, and other resources to support the successful 
applicant establishing their research and Extension activities.
