Dear list,

At times of growing climatic turmoil and geopolitical rivalry, this public
roundtable discusses two important publications of this summer: *Divided
Environments: An International Political Ecology of Climate Change, Water
and Security by Jan Selby, Gabrielle Daoust and Clemens Hoffmann (Cambridge
University Press 2022) and **Simon Dalby’s Rethinking Environmental
Security (Edward Elgar 2022). *The panelists debate how we can study the
complex linkages between climate change, violent conflict, and insecurity
and thus address a crucial question of our times: *What is security in an
age of ecological devastation?*

The hybrid roundtable is chaired by:

*Ursula Schröder*, Director of the IFSH and Professor of Political Science
at the University of Hamburg.

*With:*

   - *Simon Dalby*, Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies,
   Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario
   - *Jan Selby*, Professor of Politics and International Relations,
   University of Sheffield
   - *Antje Wiener*, Professor of Political Science and Global Governance,
   University of Hamburg
   - *Shannon O’Lear*, Professor of Geography, University of Kansas

The roundtable is part of the workshop "Climate security: Toward a critical
conceptualization", co-organized by the cluster of excellence “Climate,
Climatic Change, and Society” and the profile initiative violence and
security research at Universität Hamburg and the IFSH.
