in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks to fill an Assistant,
Associate or Full Teaching Professor, non-tenure track, in public
administration and public policy.

The School’s graduate offerings include a NASPAA-accredited Master of Public
Administration program founded in 1969 and a growing Master of Public Policy
program. Both programs are delivered on Northeastern’s Boston campus and
online, and attract a diverse and international student population.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching that
would contribute to our core classes in public administration and public
policy, such as public administration theory, policy analysis, public sector
leadership, and budgeting. The School especially welcomes candidates whose
teaching and research interests would also contribute to our Master’s programs
certificates and concentrations, such as non-profit sector management or health
care policy and administration.

Teaching faculty positions carry a 3:3 teaching load. The successful candidate
will also contribute to student advising and other School service
responsibilities.

A few points about this position:

  1. With recent hires, we have sufficient capacity in areas of economics
(broadly defined) and statistics (including data analytics). We are in
particular need of full time teaching power in nonprofit management, public and
nonprofit leadership, with some needs in health policy and administration.
  2. This position is open rank. Our teaching faculty have full faculty status
except on tenure related matters, are eligible for longer term contracts after
a short probationary period, and are able to gain promotion to associate and
full status if they come in at the assistant teaching professor level. Our
teaching faculty tend to have long careers here.
  3. Course loads typically are 3-3, with course releases available for
specific types of service to the School (e.g., directing the MPA program).
Because these are teaching positions, course releases are not granted for
research. This said, any research and / or professional development activities
are taken into account during merit and promotion reviews.
  4. Our MPA and MPP programs are offered both on campus and online, but
faculty are in residence in Boston.

Review of candidates will start in mid-February, with expectations for campus
interviews in March.
