Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all doing well and that we'll get to see many of you in person
at ISA in a few weeks! I'm writing today to encourage you to consider the
call for nominations pasted *below*. Note that the deadline has been
extended to *Friday, March 3rd.*

Participating in the ESS governance structure is a great way to interact
with colleagues, supporting the work of the Section and the vibrant
community of scholars it fosters. Many of us have benefited from the
networking and mentoring activities provided by the section, so this is a
chance to give back and ensure that legacy continues.

We have two new committees this year, which means we need even more
volunteers than usual. The *Engaged Scholar Awards committee *needs 4
members for its inaugural session. I encourage anyone who's had past
experience in ESS leadership to sign up for the short-term *Ad Hoc
Committee on Updating and Harmonization*, which will work with the chair
and representatives of existing committees on the not-so-arduous task of
recommending updates to our charter and mission statements as well as other
structural improvements to the Section next year.

As always, there are 2-3 vacancies for our long-standing committees as
well. The Sprout Award Committee is always popular, but the *Executive
Committee* is very important and members get to decide on the Graduate
Paper Award, which gives them opportunities to nurture young scholars and
identify new directions in the field. Early career faculty often start out
in the *Nominations *or *Outreach *committees, as the work-load is
relatively low but absolutely vital for the functioning of the section.

Whew, I think that's all of the committees! We have grown so much since my
first ISA in 2005, thanks in large part to our membership's willingness to
contribute their service.

best,
DG
