The Outreach Committee of the Environmental Studies Section of the 
International Studies Association takes great pleasure in sharing the winners 
of the 2023 ESS Awards! They are as follows:

The 2023 Harold and Margaret Sprout Award for the best book in the field goes 
to:
* African Ecomedia: Network Forms, Planetary Politics by Cajetan Iheka (Duke 
University Press)
We are also excited to note that Professor Cajetan will be giving a talk on his 
book during the newly created "Author's Corner" in the Exhibit Hall on the day 
that he receives the award.

An Honorable Mention for the Sprout Award was also awarded to:
* Michael W. Manulak's Change in Global Environmental Politics - Temporal Focal 
Points and the Reform of International Institutions (Cambridge University Press)

The 2023 ESS Graduate Student Paper Award will be shared by two papers:
* Greenstein, Gus. Frozen Assets: Personnel Allocation and Deforestation 
Control in Brazil's Protected Areas
* Arias and Schwartz. Think Globally, Act Locally: The Determinants of Local 
Policymakers' Support for Climate Policy

The 2023 ESS Distinguished Scholar Award will go to:
* Aseem Prakash, University of Washington

We also take the opportunity to encourage Early Career Scholars to join us in 
the ESS Speed Mentoring Roundtable, where mentors will provide advice on 
academic publishing, teaching, the job search, and outreach activities. This 
will take place on Thursday, March 16, from 13:45 - 15:30 at Samuel C, Montreal 
Marriott Chateau Champlain (between the Business Meeting and Distinguished 
Scholar Roundtable).
