Dear GEP-ED colleagues, I am writing to share that the Earth System Governance journal, established in 2018 as an open-access outlet for research on governance and institutions in the context of environmental change and earth system transformations, has achieved a significant milestone last week: we have received our first Impact Factor, with a score of 5.6. By that, the Earth System Governance journal has attained the status of a top-tier journal (Q1) in the Journal Citation Indicator ranking, in the fields of Environmental Studies (#5 out of 176 journals), International Relations (#5 out of 159), Political Science (#10 out of 315), and Public Administration (#3 out of 89). Many thanks to the wonderful editorial team whose efforts have been instrumental in shaping the journal since its launch at the 2018 Utrecht Conference on Earth System Governance, as well as to the many authors, special issue coordinators, editorial board members, reviewers, and readers who have made invaluable contributions. This impact factor should serve as a solid base upon which earth system governance research can continue to develop and thrive. As we celebrate this occasion, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering impactful scholarship and facilitating meaningful discussions on earth system governance processes and institutions at all levels of decision-making, from local to global. The Earth System Governance journal looks forward to continuing its journey, collaborating with researchers and practitioners worldwide, to advance understanding, knowledge and reach in our field.
