Recruitment - Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Political Science 2026

Job Description

Status: Private sector employment as Assistant Professor with tenure track

Discipline: Political science

Profile: Ecological Transitions in/of Europe and the EU

The Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics at Sciences Po is
seeking to recruit one Assistant professor in the department of political
science to strengthen its research and teaching capacity in the politics and/or
policy of the ecological transitions in/of Europe and the European Union.

The successful candidate will contribute to (at least) one of the four research
clusters of the CEE: 1) capitalist transformations; 2) cities, borders and
mobility; 3) the state and public policy; 4) tensions in representative
democracy. They will conduct empirical and theoretical investigations to
explore ecological transition politics (climate, energy, biodiversity,
pollution, circular economy) in a comparative perspective, focusing especially
on Europe. We welcome applications from highly qualified candidates with a
strong profile, an international record of publications, and well-grounded
expertise in comparative methodologies and analytic strategies, be they
qualitative, quantitative, or mixed. The appointee will be fully integrated
into the Sciences Po Interdisciplinary Research Programme on the Environment
[AIRE].

The successful candidate will be required to teach courses on the politics
and/or policy of ecological transition and, according to needs, introductory
courses in political science (e.g. public policy or comparative politics).

Annual duties comprise teaching (the equivalent of three courses of 24 hours
each for tenured faculty) and pedagogical/administrative service (to the Centre
and to Sciences Po more broadly). Teaching and service obligations are reduced
during the first three years of the tenure track. At least one course will be
delivered at one of Sciences Po’s regional campuses at Collège universitaire
level (in Reims, Le Havre, Dijon, Nancy, Poitiers or Menton), the others in
Paris (whether at undergraduate or at graduate level in one or more of Sciences
Po’s Schools, such as the School of Climate). The specific workload will be
agreed annually with the Head of the Department of Political Science, in
consultation with Sciences Po’s Academic Affairs Department. A preference will
be given to candidates with the ability to teach in English. Proficiency in
English is a prerequisite, fluency in French is not a requirement.

Sciences Po is an employer that respects equal opportunities and is committed
to ensuring a balanced representation of gender, geographic areas, and
minorities. Applications from women are particularly welcome.

Recruitment Process

Applications from candidates holding a PhD in political science or cognate
disciplines must be electronically submitted before February 5th, 2026 (4 pm
Paris time) to the following email address: [email protected]

The application must include the following documents:

  * A cover letter setting out the research projects and priorities of the
applicant were they to be appointed;
  *   An analytic curriculum vitae containing a complete list of publications;
  * Copies of 3 publications showing the range and quality of the research of
the applicant;
  * The syllabi of 2 potential courses linked to the needs mentioned above,
which the applicant might credibly teach (1 at Bachelor and 1 at Master level)
and, if possible, student evaluations of courses already taught;
  * Doctoral degree certificate (the PhD must have defended at the time of
application).

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The selection committee will check applications and establish a short list of
candidates who will be invited to present their research to the academic
community at Sciences Po during a ‘Job Talk’.

The expected start date is September 1st, 2026
